Confirmed: Netflix series for “Resident Evil” goes a completely new way

Months ago, an alleged description of the plot for a new “Resident Evil” series went through the net. Now the series has been officially announced by Constantin Film for Netflix and the completely new way for the video game adaptation has been confirmed.

Constantin Film from Germany is producing a “Resident Evil” series for Netflix. This has now been finally confirmed by the company, which is also behind the previous cinema series and, among other things, the “Fack Ju Göhte” successful films – with many details on production and content.

Among other things from a “Supernatural” maker

As Constantin announced, the first season of the “Resident Evil” series comprises eight episodes of 60 minutes each. One of the people responsible for this is Andrew Dabb, who is the showrunner, producer and author who holds the strings in hand. Dabb is best known for “Supernatural”, where he was first an author, but from the twelfth season also had greater responsibility as a co-showrunner.

He is supported among others by Bronwen Hughes (“The Walking Dead”). The director will stage the first two episodes and will probably also help shape the visual style of the series. Hughes has already staged numerous series episodes, for example for “The Walking Dead”, “Better Call Saul”, “Berlin Station” or the Netflix hit “Dead Girls Don’t Lie” ffmovies.

In addition to Dabb and Hughes, Robert Kulzer, Oliver Berben, Mary Leah Sutton and Constantin boss Martin Moszkowicz are also listed as producers in various roles.

Completely new story on two time levels

But most readers should be primarily interested in what the new “Resident Evil” series is about. The information we reported on a while ago was confirmed: The story takes place on two time levels! Here is the description of the two time levels from the press release:

The story takes place on two time levels!

In the first, the two fourteen-year-old sisters, Jade and Billie Wesker, have to move to New Raccoon City, a planned city that was pounded out of the ground, just as they are in the middle of puberty. But the more time they spend there, the more it becomes clear to both of them that this city is more than it initially seems, and that their father hides dark secrets. Secrets that could destroy the world.

The second narrative level takes place more than ten years in the future: there are only fewer than fifteen million people on earth. And more than six billion monsters – humans and animals infected with the T virus. Jade, now thirty, struggles to survive in this new world, while secrets from her past – about her sister, her father and herself – haunt her.

The series provides us with a completely new story, so it is not related to the previous films with Milla Jovovich and is also not an implementation of a specific part of the video game template.

It is still unknown when the series could appear on Netflix and which actresses will take on the leading roles as Jade and Billie Wesker at a young age and as 30-year-old Jade in the second storyline. The cast of the father of the young women should also be eagerly awaited by fans, because it should be Albert Wesker, the central villain figure of the successful series. Jason O’Mara first appeared in the films and later Shawn Roberts.
